
Sam Loni - سیامک لونی
Sam Loni is an economist with over a decade of experience working at the intersection of research and policy. He is passionate about sustainable and inclusive economic development.
He has worked with governments around the world, particularly ministries of finance, on topics related to public finance, economic diversification, and the energy transition.
Sam is currently an Economic Consultant in the Finance, Competitiveness & Investment Practice at the World Bank.
He is also a Research Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS) and a Research Associate with the Institute for New Economic Thinking (INET) and the Smith School of Enterprise & Environment (SSEE) at the University of Oxford.
Previously, he served as Program Director and Economist at the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) - a policy think tank operating under the auspices of the United Nations Secretary-General. Prior to this role, he worked as a Project Officer at the Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI) in Australia.
In addition to his research and policy work, Sam also has extensive experience with social entrepreneurship, leadership, and management, having successfully founded and/or led major international programmes over the past decade.
He has given over 500 talks at various international conferences and forums, and has received multiple awards, scholarships and recognitions, including being named to Forbes 30-Under-30, for his work.
His work has been featured in numerous media outlets, including Forbes, The Age, The Australian, Al Jazeera, BBC, SBS, ABC, News24, Huffington Post, and Wall Street Journal.
He completed his bachelor’s degree at Monash University in Australia, and later graduated with two master’s degrees, including an MBA, from the University of Oxford. He is currently a PhD candidate at the London School of Economics and a research fellow at Harvard University.
